Dr. William Grant is a highly experienced and Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon with a distinguished career spanning over 30 years in patient care. He has a specialization in Sports Medicine and General Orthopedics, which he practiced until 2022. Dr. Grant completed his Residency Training at the University of Virginia in June 1989 and went on to complete Fellowships at the Jackson Orthopedic Clinic in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and the Hughston Sports Medicine Center in Columbus, Georgia.
Dr. Grant began his private practice in St. Louis, Missouri, in January 1990 and later relocated to Charlottesville, Virginia, in October 1998. Throughout his career, he has maintained exemplary medical licensure and has adhered to all legal standards for practice without blemish. He was initially Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS) in 1992 and has participated in the Maintenance of Certification program on each 10th anniversary. His most recent participation was in December 2022.
Since 1998, Dr. Grant has incorporated Medical-Legal consulting as a significant component, comprising 10-15% of his professional practice. In 2022, after concluding his full-time Surgical and Office-based Private Practice, Dr. Grant’s primary interest shifted entirely toward applying his Orthopedic expertise in a forensic context. Not retired from Orthopedic Practice, Dr. Grant has transitioned to this engaging subspecialty.
In addition to offering Medical Case Reviews and Independent Medical Examinations, Dr. Grant’s expertise extends to the application of the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment (5th/6th Editions). He specializes in providing reliable Permanent Partial Impairment (PPI) Evaluations and conducts reviews of other PPI Evaluations for accuracy, as requested. Dr. Grant’s proficiency in the application of the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, coupled with his dedication to precision and accuracy, makes him a trusted resource for PPI Evaluations. His commitment to upholding the highest professional standards ensures that his evaluations are thorough, well-researched, and consistently presented in a rational manner.
Dr. Grant cherishes his close-knit family life with his wife, Karen, and their three adult children. Karen, who is a Registered Nurse, devotedly homeschooled their children until High School. All three of their children pursued their education at the University of Virginia, with their youngest, Ben, graduating in May 2023 from the Engineering Department/Computer Science.
Their daughter, Kathryn, graduated as a French Major and has since embarked on numerous long-term educational and work experiences in France. Currently, she shares her passion for the French language by teaching French online to domestic and international students.
Their oldest son, Justin, attended the UVA Commerce School before joining Capital One in McLean, Virginia, in 2017. He has made significant strides in his career and now holds the position of Director within the Capital One Shopping division.
The Grants relish domestic travel, particularly road trips. They are looking forward to visiting France and other European countries this summer with their daughter. Dr. Grant is also passionate about the culinary arts, with a keen interest in barbecue, grilling, sourdough, and all-grain beer brewing. He sees the latter two hobbies as practical microbiology experiments with a gourmet twist. Dr. Grant is also enthusiastic about outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, and RV travel. He and his wife have a coach for two, which allows them to explore and enjoy the natural beauty of different destinations while indulging in their love for camping and outdoor adventures.
Dr. Grant is a practicing Christian and a student of the Bible, incorporating his faith into his daily life and practice. He and Mrs. Grant actively participate with and support several Christian organizations. The Grants are passionate about supporting the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, which provides orthopedic care to children nationwide.
